Over a series of talks and panels across two days, the Symposium will explore the theme “Translation is Creative,” underscoring the creativity and imagination that are inherent in the act of literary translation, yet often overlooked or erased. We encourage attendees to see the translator behind the translations, to appreciate their innovation and imagination when rendering the text into a different cultural sensibility than its original.

The sessions at this year’s symposium will illuminate the various processes and collaborations that take place during the translation of a work (and even publication subsequently), and showcase the conversations that arise, be it between writer and translator, between two languages, or between two cultures.
