Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC)

AFCC, through its conferences and activities, provides the opportunity and platform to explore the entire spectrum of children’s content starting from content creation to distribution and to consumer consumption. With over 100 speakers and 600 delegates, AFCC is the place to meet writers, illustrators, producers, media professionals and educators from Asia and around the world.

AFCC Call For Papers 2019

5 - 8 SEPTEMBER 2019 

The Asian Festival of Children's Content (AFCC) is an annual festival that celebrates and aims to promote the creation, development and appreciation of quality Asian content for children and young adults. Organised by the Singapore Book Council, the festival comprises presentations, panels, masterclasses, workshops, along with a book fair showcasing a wide selection of books from local and international publishers.

The AFCC is a unique event in Asia that provides an opportunity for academics, writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, distributors, parents, teachers, and librarians to meet, learn, hone their craft, and develop cross-cultural collaborations.

The Call for Papers for AFCC 2019 is now open. We are inviting academics and practitioners to submit their proposals that fall under any of our main programming tracks: Writers and Illustrators, Teachers and Parents, Cross-Platform. For more information on the various tracks and suggested topics, please see below.

The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2019.

The programme committee will select the papers according to the content of the topic and its relevance to the festival.
If you are selected you will receive a complimentary 3-day Festival pass (which includes admission to all sessions, except Masterclasses). 
- Please note that the Festival pass excludes admission into Masterclasses. 
- Please note that honorarium, flight and hotel accommodation will not be provided if your paper is selected to be presented at AFCC.

- Writers & Illustrators Track

The Writers and Illustrators Track gathers writers and illustrators together with publishing industry professionals to share, network and celebrate literature for both children and young adult fiction from Asia and around the world. Topics for proposals can include, but are not limited to, the following:



- Teachers & Parents Track

The Teachers and Parents Track provides teachers, educators and parents with the skills and knowledge to engage with children and young adults through stories and books. The sessions also focus on developing early literacy, imparting a love for books, and supporting language and literacy development from early childhood (ages 1 – 6) to primary levels (ages 7-12). Topics for proposals can include, but are not limited to, the following:

Proposals related to teenagers and young adults are also welcome.



- Cross-Platform Track

The Cross-Platform Track focuses on multi-platform storytelling, pitching, interactive narrative and digital marketing to address the current trends and issues in the content market for children and young adults. Topics for proposals can include, but are not limited to, the following:

Selected applicants will be asked to submit a draft of the full presentation, including the talking points and PowerPoint of their presentations two (2) months prior to the Festival.

All Call for Paper presentations are limited to a maximum duration of one (1) hour. You are welcome to include interactive elements in your proposal to complement your presentation.

Speakers agree to allow the organisers to use the paper in parts or in full for marketing and publicity purposes for the AFCC, either in printed or online form.

We would like to thank everyone for making the Asian Festival of Children's Content 2018 a huge success! Our three-day festival that hosted more than 350 delegates from Singapore and around the world, and welcomed close to 5,000 members of the general public, concluded at Singapore Night at The Clifford Pier at the Fullerton Bay Hotel.
